SMLE Topwoods Mk1 - MkIII*

SMLE Reproduction Topwoods

VMA Topwoods are hand made using quality local and Imported woods. All care is taken to replicate original specifications to all woodwork, but being handmade, there will be some minor variations. All topwoods have enlarged barrel channels to accommodate Lithgow Heavy Barrels, Also this enlarged barrel channel adds to the ease of fitting and is not visible to the exterior of the rifle when fitted. Some fitting may be required to accommodate manufacturing variations. For this reason the rear "wings" are made longer and will need to be trimmed when fitting. Some filing in the barrel band channel to both topwood and forewood may also be required.

There are many variations of SMLE Topwoods, not only in wood but between manufacturers. In general I make two variations, Pre war and wartime variations. But this can be confusing as some postwar manufacturers change back to Pre-war variations after the Great War and some never changes to the more simple variation in the first place, Lithgow being one in particular.
The wartime variation is recognised by not having the higher rear portion of the wood behind the barrel band, being a straight line, front to rear. See Photos below.
