WESTPORT COASTAL DEFENCE GUN EMPLACEMENT

THE WESTPORT 5" GUN ENPLACEMENT

Like the Cape Wanbrow in Oamaru and Cobden, this installation was also made for one 5" naval gun. The position is made up of an observation post and one Colchester type gun shelter. Only the BOP remains.

One 5" 51 caliber MkVIII US Naval gun No. xxx (From same shipment as Cape Wardrow (Oamaru) gun and Cobden, Greymouth. on a Mk XIII Carriage and a MkIV Stand. Fitted with a local designed auto sight, designed by the Department of Scientific Research.
Max Effective range 17,000 yds
